Global enterprise CoorsTek recently announced plans to expand its operations in Grand Junction, Colo. According to an article in The Daily Sentinel, CoorsTek will invest $10-11 million as part of the expansion and add 30-40 employees, bringing the total number of employees in Grand Junction to almost 200. About half of those employees will come from the company’s headquarters in Golden, Colo.
The company, which boasts a 100-year plus history, is the world’s largest privately owned ceramics manufacturer. It employs over 6,000 people in 10 countries around the world and its products appear in almost every item around us, from cellphones to automobiles. It operates across multiple industries, including agriculture and aerospace, two key industries in Colorado’s Grand Valley.
About the expansion, Andrew Golike, CoorsTek plant manager in Grand Junction, told The Daily Sentinel:
“This Grand Junction facility was selected because we have the space. It’s a large facility, the labor force is here, and the ability and skill set in Grand Junction was a really good fit for these products.”
Golike also noted that Grand Junction, which has been home to a CoorsTek facility since 1977, is an attractive location for the manufacturer due to its low-cost natural gas, strong workforce and low turnover.
Mesa County, where Grand Junction is the main seat, presented CoorsTek with a tax incentive for the expansion that will offset around $80,000 in taxes for the company over a 10-year period.
