FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE [May 12, 2017 | Grand Junction, CO] – The Grand Junction Economic Partnership (GJEP) is pleased to announce that the 2017 Western Colorado Economic Summit will include an afternoon visioning workshop to set key economic development priorities for the Grand Valley for the next decade-plus.

The “2030 VISION” community workshop will take place on June 6, 2017, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. The approximately two-hour event will include brief presentations on 5-6 high-priority topics, after which attendees will separate into groups to workshop each topic. Toward the end of the event each group will present their findings and attendees will be invited to rank the topics in order of priority.
Topics to be presented at the workshop will be determined from the results of a survey GJEP released earlier this week, which allows respondents to select up to five topics they feel will be most relevant to further discussion. Topics were determined by the 2030 VISION steering committee, a group of local business leaders and community influencers, led by Todd Conklin, CEO of Coldwell Banker Distinctive Properties and Commercial Prime Properties in Grand Junction (also a title sponsor of the Economic Summit).
“We at Coldwell Banker fully believe and support [GJEP’s] mission, which is why we sponsor the Western Colorado Economic Summit, and why we are especially pleased to announce the ‘2030 VISION’ workshop, where [community members] get to decide the key issues that we should champion as a community over the next decade,” Conklin stated in GJEP’s community newsletter on May 9.
Survey respondents can choose from nine topics, including: improving K-12 education; supporting CMU 20,000; growing a Grand Valley hub for the technology or outdoor recreation industries; developing an Arts & Culture District; adding more direct flights at Grand Junction Regional Airport; and so forth. Voters also have a write-in option for a topic of their choice. The survey is open through May 20 and can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M9KZP9W.
The “2030 VISION” workshop is open to all 2017 Western Colorado Economic Summit ticket holders. Community members who are unable to attend on June 6, will be able to watch a recording of the event on westcoeconomicsummit.com following the Summit. Non-attendees will also have an opportunity to vote remotely on the key priorities.
GJEP will continue to post information and updates about the 2017 Western Colorado Economic Summit and the coinciding “2030 VISION” community workshop on westcoeconomicsummit.com. Community members can also stay involved on social media using hashtags #westcoeconomics and #GV2030VISION.
