During this episode of Business Beat, GJEP’s Selena Sanchez speaks with Brigitte Sunderman, Vice President of Community College Affairs at WCCC regarding the Learn for Less Initiative and available resources for students and employers.

Business Beat originally aired live on KAFM Community Radio on September 27, 2022.

Colorado Mesa University and Western Colorado Community College’s unique dual mission of providing a wide range of academic programming, from technical certificates to bachelor’s degrees, has served the region well for more than 30 years. In today’s economic climate, employers are struggling to hire qualified employees, and families are worried about inflation and how to prepare for the future. To meet these challenges, WCCC is announcing a bold new Learn for Less initiative to make career and technical education courses more affordable for students and families.

Beginning the Fall 2022 semester, tuition and fees for WCCC career and technical education courses will be reduced by nearly 40% to $197 per credit hour*. A nearly $2 million donation from the estate of former Colorado Senator and CMU Trustee Tillie Bishop will cover the first year’s revenue loss as CMU and WCCC determine budget efficiencies and additional donations to sustain the initiative.

During our conversation with Brigitte Sunderman, we learned about the variety of programs offered to both students and employers. Through additional funding for programs including Healthcare and Early Childhood Development, WCCC is able to offer enrollment at little to no cost for students for a limited time. For students looking to further their education and work towards making a difference in our community, now is the time to explore available options through WCCC.

Additionally, WCCC offers custom and ongoing classes for employers including leadership training, safety and compliance, LEAN manufacturing training, and more. Through these programs, employers can save time and money, increase retention and staff satisfaction, and increase efficiency.
