January 11, 2017 – Gov. Hickenlooper announced his top priorities for 2017 yesterday, ahead of the Colorado legislature session, which kicked off today. Improving the rural broadband network and the state’s transportation system topped the list. The Denver Business Journal recaps:

“On broadband, Hickenlooper argued that one of the primary reasons Colorado came out of the Great Recession more quickly than other states did was because of the state’s agricultural productivity.

And with 30 percent of the state unable to access broadband, public investment in that infrastructure is essential both to keep the state’s agricultural economy prosperous and to help former coal-mining towns suffering through economic downturns as that source of fuel is being phased out.”
