The Grand Junction area is a regional medical and health center
serving a population of approximately of 500,000 in western Colorado
and eastern Utah and is the largest between Denver and Salt Lake
City. Consequently the level of medical and health services are
superb and are uncommon to a community of this size:

The area has 6.3 hospital beds per 1,000 people compared
to the US average of 5.2 per 1,000.
Grand Junction has a high ratio of doctors to population,
boasting 190 specialists and 60 family practitioners.
The community also has extensive facilities for the care
of our senior residents, with 14 nursing homes and many retirement
living centers.
There are three
major hospitals in the Grand Junction area - all feature state of
the art facilities and emergency transport services:
St Mary's Hospital
& Medical Center - (970) 244-2273. The largest hospital
is St. Mary's, a licensed facility with 346 beds, with a Level II
Trauma Center with Air Life emergency transport service and a Level
II Neonatology Center. They also offer a full range of psychiatric
services, dialysis, open heart surgery, and
a comprehensive oncology clinic.
Community Hospital
- 970-242-0920. Licensed facility with 65 beds, provides the community
with complete surgical services, 24-hour emergency care center, critical
care unit, imaging center, full rehabilitative therapy services and
a comprehensive occupational medicine program.
Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center - 970-242-0731.
A federal health facility with 53 acute and long term beds, provides
inpatient and ambulatory medicine, surgery and psychiatric services
to all veterans.
