The beautiful plateau and canyon high-country of the Colorado National Monument, the first National Park in Colorado, rises more than 2,000 feet above the valley floor. There are many ways to enjoy the incredible scenery all within minutes of the city. Adjacent BLM lands and wilderness areas also provide similar recreational opportunities. The Grand Junction area, and in particular, Fruita is renowned for its superb mountain biking trails. Often described as mountain biking’s "Magic Kingdom," this is a dream destination for visitors and locals alike. The Grand Mesa, the largest flat-topped mountain in the world, rises to over 10,000 feet, providing ample snow for Powderhorn Ski Resort and a large network of cross-country ski trails. Just a short 40 minute drive from Grand Junction, the "Mesa" is popular for its fishing, camping, hiking and mountain biking during the summer.
